Press Release Body: Just in time for Hand Washing Awareness Week (12/7-13/08),
Follow That Germ, the new easy reader from 3E Health Ed Tools LLC (ISBN 13:
978-1-890391-003, 38 pp., $12.95) has kids and adults laughing all the way to the
sink. Featuring an adorable tyke named Ollie and his wily arch nemesis Germo, Follow
That Germ tracks Ollie through a typical day. Everywhere Ollie goes, Germo goes too,
depositing his germ chums all over everything. Although Ollie tries any number of
ways to get rid of Germo, there's just one way to lose that sneaky germ: with soap
and water and a really silly hand-washing song.

Follow That Germ co-author and 3E Health Ed Tools President Deirdre Byerly, a
representative for a sponsor of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) in
Denver, has been teaching health ed to kids in licensed child-care homes for more
than a decade. After talking to other educators, and based on her own experience,
Byerly knew that she wanted health education material that was easy to use.
"Frequently," she says, "I've laid my hands on really cute books or games, but they
came with a massive binder full of curriculum explanation and instructions. Reading
to kids is just one small piece of what I do, so I don't have time to sort through a
ton of instructions just to be able to convey a simple message."

Thus, 3E Health Ed Tools LLC was born, and with it, the release of their first book
and easy-to-use support tools for parents, caregivers and educators.

"We decided to design books with companion materials for child health education that
were easy to use and understand," says co-author and 3E Vice President Lisa Hawker.
"Then in order to make the tools effective, we incorporated all three of the primary
learning styles. And last but not least, we made sure that the materials were
entertaining, because humor and fun increase comprehension and retention. And those
are the three Es."

Byerly and Hawker recently conducted workshops at the national CACFP conference in
Nashville. "Besides the book," Byerly says, "our most popular products are probably
our temporary Germo tattoos and our 'G-E-R-M-O' hand-washing song CD, sung to the
tune of 'Bingo.' We couldn't believe the overwhelming response to the tattoos at the
CACFP conference!"

In addition to Follow That Germ, the temporary tattoos and CDs, 3E offers support
tools like a "Follow That Germo" game, coloring and activity sheets, a poster of
Germo going down the drain ideal for over the sink, and an all-in-one easy-to-use
Tool Kit for health educators and parents. Subscriptions to the 3E web site offer
users monthly newsletter content in four different formats as well as coloring and
activity sheets coordinated with the current topic and much more.
